Lawrenceville, NJ Real Estate and Homes for Sale
Filled with charm and open space, Lawrence Township has very reasonably priced homes in a community close to Princeton and equidistant to both Philadelphia and New York. The Township's town center is small and accessible; its tree-lined streets, bucolic. Founded in 1697, Lawrence has historic significance. For example, US 206, which was once called the King's Highway, dates back to the 18th century, and US 1, once known as the Brunswick Pike, was chartered in 1804. The Township was originally part of Burlington County; then as political boundaries changed, in 1714, it became part of Hunterdon County. In 1838, it became part of what we now know to be Mercer County.
Lawrence Middle School, serving 6th, 7th and 8th grades, became a New Jersey School of Character in 2013. Lawrence Intermediate, Slackwood and Ben Franklin Elementary are also Schools of Character. The Township is also the home to Rider University and the private boarding school, The Lawrenceville School. Close to Route 1 shopping, and the home of Carson Road Woods and the Loveless Nature Preserve (to name just two of the many recreational facilities in the area), Lawrence Township (often called simply Lawrenceville) is a very desirable place to live. Lawrenceville, whose population is only about 3,887, is an unincorporated community within Lawrence Township.
