Welcome to the Borough of New Hope, located in central Bucks County southeastern Pennsylvania, bordered on the east by the Delaware River and the State of New Jersey, and on its other three sides, by Solebury Township. Why live in New Hope Borough or Solebury Township? Let me give you just a few reasons.
New Hope Borough is filled with history. Originally settled by the Lenni-Lenape tribe of Native Americans, it was formally established in the early part of the 18th century. During the American Revolutionary War General George Washington marched through New Hope on four documented occasions and the town played a vital role in the preparations for the Battles of Trenton and Monmouth. According to the New Hope Historical website, New Hope’s strategic location on the Delaware River made it an important transportation hub over the past three centuries. Stage coaches, canal boats, trains, trolleys and automobiles all made their way to New Hope-the half-way point from Philadelphia to New York City, and the midpoint of the Delaware Canal between Easton and Bristol.
The Borough's location is truly majestic. The expanse of the Delaware River surrounds the area and the Delaware Canal runs through the center of town, crisscrossed by a half dozen streams and creeks that flow into the River. There are parks and pathways throughout the area, leading to winding roads, historic one-lane bridges, wonderful foliage and breathtaking views.
Today, the Borough is the center of a vibrant community of art galleries, antique shops, museums, more than 100 historic buildings, and many nationally acclaimed restaurants. Stella just opened in 2019 and the Logan Inn is one of the oldest continually operating inns in the United States, having been established in the 1700s. Sprig and Vine a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, is one of my favorites! New Hope is also the home of the Bucks County Playhouse, a center of the theater and musical events (another of my favorites), as well as various clothing and jewelry boutiques, icecream parlors and even tattoo parlors.
